Exit and Emergency Lighting

Exit and emergency lights play an extremely important roll during an emergency situation. A power failure or emergency evacuation at your facility is a critical situation for all building occupants.These backup lights provide occupants of your building to safely maneuver and exit your facility. Maintaining your emergency lighting system is important to minimize risk and to provide occupants of your facility to safety.

Monthly Inspection: The property owner or building management is required to have all exit & emergency lights inspected monthly.  The inspection includes the following:  

  • 30 Second battery draw down test.

  • Batteries have installation date                                                                                                               

  • Replacing batteries on any devices that do not illuminate                                                                                                

  • Aiming lights to proper location

  • Completing a monthly record of all tested devices, batteries that were replaced, and any deficient lights.

 

 

Annual Inspection: All exit & emergency lights with a backup power source must be tested and inspected at least annually per local code and manufactures recommendation. This inspection included includes: 

  • Load testing of batteries to ensure proper operation                                                                                                                

  • Examining leads and battery terminals for any corrosion or defects                         

  •   Verifying all batteries are no older then 5 years

  • Inspecting for any defects or damage to lighting

  • Voltage testing                

  • Aim lighting to proper location      

  • 90-minute burn down test testing to ensure all lights last a minimum of 90 minutes during an emergency situation

When we are completed with our inspection. Lakeside Fire Protection will provide you a detailed report with the location and type of all devices, any defects, battery dates, and any devices that need to be replaced. This report allows you to accurately forecast how many batteries need replacement for proper planning and budgeting. We also provide you with proactive inspection notifications, so you never miss a due date.
